Affixed nineteenth-century inscription reading: 'Magnificent sheet from a Missal bought at Palermo in 1803. Painted by Peter Peruginei the book contained two large paintings and eight smaller ones which with much regret cut from the binding in consequence of the fear of losing the book - it having been taken from the convent of St. Jerome. It is to be regretted that we possess but very incomplete accounts of the artists of the 13th and fourteenth centuries to whom we are indebted for the labours and often splendid performances which decorate the choral books and other illuminated manuscripts written in Italy during these periods.
